My name is Janine Oberer. I am 25 years old and I live and work in Zürich. In the year 2009, I had the opportunity to travel to Nigeria for the first time, to get to know my boyfriend's family, culture and homeland. The way of living in Nigeria left a great impression on me. The closeness to nature, the culture, the traditions but also the suffering and the poverty contradicting with the incredible richness of some people has marked me deeply.

When Emeka Golden Ikezu came to seek advice, about how to help the children in Nigeria, I was very excited about the idea of doing something good on my own. We decided to start the Golden Child Heritage Foundation. This way we can ensure that the donations reach the correct place and we are able to make a big change in the small world of the Nigerian children.

I was born in Abagana, which is part of the Njikoka area of Anambra state in Nigeria. I am the last of 6 children. My father died when I was just 6 months old and my mother found it hard to take care of her children alone. I had to sell things on the road side to help to provide food for the family and to make money to pay my school fees. But the money I made was not enough and I had to drop out of school.

I was so frustrated, that I ran away from home at a very young age, trying to find my destiny. I always wanted to become a professional footballer, but lacking the right development and exposure as I was growing up, made things even more difficult. Today, I live and work in Switzerland, together with my wife and my two children.

I have seen how children are given education, apprenticeship and their talents are developed here and I always wish I had had the same opportunity as a child back home in Nigeria. With those chances, I might not have felt the need to leave my home country and who knows, could be living a different life to the one I am living today.

My name is Jeannette Oberer. I am working in a children's hospital as a secretary and as a masseur in a fitness club. I have two grown-up children, who I have raised by myself for the most part.

My daughter and her friend Emeka Ikezu had the idea of starting the Golden Child Heritage Foundation and asked me, if I wanted to be part of it as a member of the board of trustees.

Since I know, what it means to bring up children and provide financial means for education, I decided to become a part of the Golden Child Heritage Foundation. All children should have the right to education and I want to take a strong stand for that.

My motivation for joining the Golden Child Heritage Foundation was born out of a genuine desire to assist the less privileged and vulnerable people in our society. With this project, I know that I will be able to make a change in the lives of these children. Seeing their smiling faces keeps me going even more.

When I was in school I had a friend who used to arrange for people to cheat in exams for a fee. When I confronted her, she explained that it was the only thing keeping her from starvation and helping her to pay her school fees. My friends and I decided to pay her fees and from then on I decided to help as many people as I can to get a good education. Education is the surest ticket out of poverty – it gives my people the option not to descend to corruption, theft and violence.

I decided to join the Golden Child Heritage Foundation after having seen the level of poverty in our society, mainly children are destitute, many do not go to school and many do not eat up to two times a day. So I feel we could join hands together to really put a smile on the faces of the children by sending them to school and giving them the opportunity to develop their talents for a stable future.

I decided to join the Golden Child Heritage Foundation after having seen how many children in Nigeria are unable to go school. Instead they are being forced to work, even though they are still children. What motivated me to join the Golden Child Heritage Foundation is how they are helping Children, sending them to school. So I decided to join hands and help make the project a success.
