The Idea of the Golden Child Heritage Foundation comes from Emeka Golden Ikezu, one of the board members. In the year 2003, out of the desperate hope for a brighter future, he decided to start a new life in Europe, without knowing what to expect.
"I didn't have enough money, to buy a flight ticket to Europe. Therefore I had no other choice than to choose the long way through the Sahara desert, crossing North Africa and the Mediterranean Sea. This journey has changed my life forever. I did not have enough food or water. I had to experience, how my fellow people died of thirst or hunger. But that was not everything. While traveling by boat over the Mediterranean Sea, I had to watch some good friends of mine drown. It was at that moment that I promised God, that if I should survive this journey and get safely to Europe, I would do everything to make my homeland Nigeria a better place, and prevent others from going through what I have been through. And now I want to realise that project through the Golden Child Heritage Foundation.
I want to improve the life of the Nigerian children, who like me come from poor families. I want to give them hope, to get the chance of a stable future in Nigeria through education. Only this will keep them from risking their lives like I did by traveling to Europe. I want them to get the chance to make Nigeria a better place themselves".
