Place of activity

Nigeria: Nigeria is a country twenty-two times the size of Switzerland with more than 150 million people comprising 250 ethnic groups. Almost half of the population (44%) are children below the age of 14. But in a country with 70% of the population living under the poverty line, paying school fees for their children proves difficult to many families. Sometimes, the children are responsible for the financial support of the whole family and instead of learning how to read or write they have to sell food on the streets, carry out illegal business or commit crimes to survive.

Aims of the Foundation

The Golden Child Heritage Foundation aims to ensure an adequate education to these children. They can learn a profession and become independent and liberated. In a fast-growing economy such as the Nigerian, without education, children do not have the chance to live a stable life and hope for a bright future.

Anambra State

The state Anambra has been named after the Anambra River (an affluent of the Niger). Anambra is the eighth most populated state in the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the second most densely-populated state in Nigeria after Lagos State. The area has an estimated density of 2000 persons living within every square kilometer of the area. Most of the habitants live from farming; including palm oil, corn, rice, yams and manioc plantation. Besides this, fishery is another main resource.
